How to Configure and Manage Channels with the Channel Builder

In this article, you will learn how to use the channel-mapping section of Admetrics to create and maintain custom channel definitions. This gives you enhanced control over how your traffic is categorized and how attribution and reporting behave.

What you will learn in this article:

  • How to tailor and manage your channel mapping rules in your Admetrics user interface.

  • How to add, edit and reorder channels for accurate reporting.

  • Key points to watch out for to ensure your changes are correctly applied and reflected in your data.

1. Accessing the Channel Mapping Interface

1.1 Navigating to the Channels Section

Log into your Admetrics account and from the main menu go to Settings → Channels. This is where you manage your channel definitions.

Once inside the Channels section, you will see existing channels listed. From here you can add new ones, edit existing ones (names, icons, groupings), or define which UTM combinations should be mapped to which channel.

2. Managing Channels - Configuration Steps

2.1 Adding or Editing Channels

When you add a new channel or edit an existing one, follow these steps:

  • Assign a name to the channel. Make it clear and consistent with your internal naming convention.

  • Choose an icon to visually distinguish the channel.

  • Select the appropriate channel group (for example Paid Search, Organic Social, Display, Affiliate, etc.).

  • Set Budget Scaling to “Ignore” if you want this channel to be excluded from budget scaling adjustments in your analysis.

  • Define the specific UTM combinations (such as utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign) you wish to map to this channel. These definitions tell Admetrics how to assign incoming traffic to this channel.

  • After configuring each channel, Save your changes.

2.2 Using Conditions and Groups for Precise Mapping

To make your channel mappings as accurate as possible, you can use conditions and groups to define which traffic should be assigned to a channel based on available dimensions.

You can apply multiple conditions simultaneously:

  • If all conditions must be true for the mapping to apply, use the AND logic.

  • If any of the conditions can be true for a match, use OR.

For more complex logic, you can combine AND and OR statements by grouping conditions together. These groups allow you to structure your logic more flexibly - first define the logic within each group, and then specify how those groups should relate to each other. This ensures that your mapping rules will accurately reflect how you want your traffic to be categorized.

2.3 Reordering Channels

You can reorder the channels by clicking and dragging them into a new position. This not only helps keep your list organized but also influences attribution logic. Channels placed higher are checked first for matching UTM combinations, allowing you to prioritize them from top to bottom.

2.4 Finalizing Your Configuration

Once you are satisfied with your mappings, make sure to click Save at the bottom of the page to apply all your configurations.

Note: Your changes will only be reflected in the data after the next data update.

⚠️ Caution:

When you modify channel mappings, please be aware that you are affecting how incoming traffic will be categorized and therefore how attribution, conversion credit and reporting will behave. Incorrect or inconsistent mappings can lead to misclassification of traffic and misleading metrics.
