1. Discrepancies between Shopify and Data Studio
1.1 Difference between net sales number in the Data Studio and in Shopify
It may happen that the net sales number in the Data Studio is different to the net sales number you can see in Shopify. This difference comes from gift card orders that are considered as net sales with us (when bought, but not when redeemed), but not with Shopify. Shopify does not include gift card sales into their net sales number.
1.2 Difference between visits and visitor number in Data Studio and Shopify
For Shopify, a session ends after 30 minutes of no activity, and at midnight UTC.
For Admetrics, a session ends after 30 mins of no activity. There is no midnight cut off for a session and all reporting based on the configured timezone in the settings not UTC.
1.3 Different calculation methods for prices with included tax and percentage discounts
Another reason for discrepancies between reports in Admetrics Data Studio and Shopify is the different calculation methods for prices with included tax and percentage-based discounts. When a Shopify store has the "All prices include tax" option enabled and percentage discounts are applied to orders, differences may occur.Shopify uses two distinct methods for calculating discounted prices, depending on the type of report:
In the Sales Report, the tax component is deducted first, and then the discount is applied. This means the discount is applied to the net price (excluding tax).
On the Orders page and in the Orders API export, the discount is applied first, and then the tax is calculated on the discounted price.
These different methods result in variations in the reported discount amount, discounted price and gross sales, depending on the report type. However, it is important to note that the total order amount, tax rate, and tax amount remain consistent across both methods.
Since Admetrics Data Studio generates its reports based on the data provided by the Shopify Orders API, differences might be expected in the aforementioned metrics when comparing numbers between Data Studio and Shopify Sales reports.
This distinction applies only to stores that display prices inclusive of tax and use percentage-based discounts. Currently, there is no way to reconcile the two report types within Shopify.
2. Importing Values with Different Attribution Settings
We offer you the option to import values from platforms like Meta, using different attribution settings.
This often explains the discrepancies you might notice when comparing the imported platform data (e.g., platform purchases) with the values shown in your ad manager.
For instance, we might import values using a 7-day click attribution window instead of a 30-day click attribution window.
In the table, you can find the Attribution Windows for each conversion metric by vendor.
| purchases, purchases_value | purchases_v7d, purchases_value_v7d | Documentation |
Facebook / Meta | v1d, c7d | v7d, c7d
Google Ads | Google account level setting | Google account level setting
v1d, c30d, e30d | v7d, c30d, e30d
Snapchat | s28d | s7d |
v = view, c = click, e = engagement, s = swipe, d = days
